Placement-ready curriculum is not an abstract goal. It is measurable. And the data to measure it is already sitting in your students' resumes.
Most departments in Tamil Nadu engineering colleges run curriculum reviews based on what faculty think the industry wants, or what AICTE guidelines specify, or what was relevant five years ago. Few use real evidence from what students are producing when they try to present themselves to employers.

Internal assessments measure what students know in a test context. Resumes reveal how students represent what they know in a professional context. These are different, and the gap between them is often large.

Students list tools and technologies as if completing a course inventory, without connecting them to any project or outcome. A resume that says "Python, Java, SQL, Machine Learning" with no supporting evidence does not convince a recruiter that the student can do any of it.
Project sections are thin or missing. Students who completed academic projects describe them in one line or skip them. A project section that reads "mini project on image processing" does not give an employer anything to evaluate.
Descriptions of roles, responsibilities, and outcomes are generic. "Responsible for frontend development" tells a recruiter nothing. "Built and deployed a React interface used by 30 team members to track project tasks" tells them something.
Certifications and add-on courses often list completions without connecting them to applied work.
These patterns repeat across departments and across batches. And they are fixable.
How departments can respond
When a department can see that 70 percent of students in their batch have weak project sections on their resumes, that is a curriculum signal, not just a coaching problem.
Make project quality expectations explicit from second year. Students who have been told what a strong project description looks like, and who have had projects reviewed against that standard, arrive at fourth year with material to work with. Students who were never given that standard arrive with nothing.
Add value-added courses that produce evidence. A certification course that ends with a project deployed to GitHub is worth more on a resume than a certification that ends with a quiz. Departments can influence which add-on courses they encourage based on what produces usable evidence of skill.
Run hackathons and industry projects with documentation requirements. The event is not the outcome. The documented outcome is. A student who participated in a hackathon and can describe what they built, what decisions they made, and what the result was has something to show. A student who attended but cannot describe their contribution has nothing.
Track improvement across batches, not just outcomes. If the department made changes in second year, the effect should show up in resume quality two years later. Measuring this closes the loop and justifies continued investment.
The accreditation angle
Outcome-based education frameworks, required under NAAC and NBA, ask departments to demonstrate that graduates meet defined learning outcomes. Resume quality is not an official OBE metric, but it is a practical proxy for several that are.
A batch where students can describe their technical projects in specific terms, demonstrate applied skills, and present professional materials is a batch that meets outcomes around communication, professional readiness, and applied learning. That is documentable.
Departments that use resume analytics as part of their review process have a richer evidence base for accreditation than departments relying only on internal assessment scores. This approach helps institutions measure Tamil Nadu placements outcomes more effectively.

You do not need to overhaul the curriculum to start. The entry point is observation.
Collect a batch of resumes from your current final-year students and look at them honestly. Not to judge the students, but to see what the batch looks like as a whole. Are the projects described with enough specificity to be credible? Are the skills connected to real work? Is there evidence of growth from first year to third year?
What you find will tell you where the gaps are and which interventions are worth running.
