Role Fit: How well the student's overall profile aligns with the roles they are targeting. A student with a strong data science background applying only to software engineering roles will score low on role fit regardless of their resume quality.
JD Alignment: How closely the resume matches the specific language, keywords, and framing of actual job descriptions. Role fit and JD alignment are separate. A student can be right for a role category but still have a resume that does not match the framing a specific company's JD requires.
Completeness: Whether all required sections are present and filled with substantive content. Missing sections, single-line summaries, and unexplained timeline gaps reduce completeness and raise flags for screeners.
What is a good placement readiness score?

Ready (score 80 and above): The resume will clear automated screening for target roles. The placement team's job shifts to JD matching, interview preparation, and drive registration. Resume coaching is not the highest value use of time for this group.
Needs Improvement (score 60 to 79): The resume has gaps that will cost shortlists at selective companies. These students can self-serve improvement with targeted feedback. A specific task list by dimension is more useful than a general workshop invitation.
At Risk (score below 60): The resume will fail automated screening at most companies in the student's target sector. Individual scores tell you which students are ready. Cohort-level skill intelligence tells you whether your batch is ready for the market you are sending them into.
Every company recruiting on campus has a skill profile: the combination of technical skills, domain knowledge, and evidence depth they expect from candidates. When you aggregate skill coverage across your entire batch and compare it to the skill profiles of your placement pool, you can identify gaps before drive season begins.
If 60 percent of your batch targets data science roles but only 15 percent have SQL and Python documented with project evidence, your skill supply does not match the demand your students are competing for. That gap does not appear in individual readiness scores. It appears in shortlist rates when it is too late to fix.

What other metrics predict shortlisting?
Preparation timeline: Students who submit their first resume draft in September and revise three times by November outplace students who submit for the first time in October. Early preparation is a strong leading indicator.
Revision activity: The number of meaningful revisions a student makes after receiving feedback. Students who revise improve. Students who do not revise despite being flagged at risk are a different problem requiring direct outreach rather than more feedback.
How to track these metrics at batch level
Individual student data is useful for advising. Batch aggregate data is what placement teams need to manage the cycle and report to leadership.
Useful batch metrics: score distribution showing how many students sit below a shortlist threshold, average score by department to identify where resources should go, movement week on week showing whether the batch is improving, and JD alignment rates for students who have already started applying.
Distribution matters more than averages. A batch average of 68 can co-exist with 35 percent of students below 55. The average looks acceptable. The tail is a placement crisis in slow motion.
