Oracle is a database company first. Everything else (the cloud infrastructure, the enterprise applications, the SaaS products) is built on top of that foundation. Understanding this shapes how you should position your resume. At most companies, SQL is a supporting skill. At Oracle, it is a primary credential.
If you are a final-year student or recent graduate targeting Applications Developer, Database Developer, Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, or QA Engineer roles in India, this guide covers what actually moves your resume forward.
Oracle's ATS is Oracle Taleo
This is worth stating plainly: Oracle uses its own Taleo product as its applicant tracking system. Oracle eats its own dog food. Taleo parses resumes and ranks candidates before a human sees the document.
What this means for you: standard ATS resume scoring hygiene matters here as much as anywhere, but there is an added layer. Taleo has well-documented quirks with complex formatting. Use plain text, one column, no tables, no text boxes, no headers or footers with contact information, no graphics. Dates in consistent format. Headings that match expected keywords: Experience, Education, Skills, Projects.
Taleo also performs keyword extraction. If the JD mentions SQL, PL-SQL, Java, and Oracle Database and your resume uses different terminology ("relational databases," "stored procedures" without saying PL-SQL), the match score suffers. Use the exact terminology from the job description where it is accurate.
Why SQL depth matters more at Oracle than anywhere else
Oracle built the world's most used commercial relational database. Their engineering culture reflects decades of thinking rigorously about data integrity, query performance, locking behaviour, and schema design. Candidates who can speak about these things at depth have a genuine advantage, even at entry level.
Most fresh graduates list "SQL" as a skill and write one bullet about querying a database for a project. Oracle hiring managers expect more than that. Show your SQL depth through specifics: indexing decisions you made and why, EXPLAIN plan analysis, normalization choices, PL-SQL procedures or triggers you wrote, performance problems you diagnosed and fixed.
Oracle Database knowledge is rare among fresh graduates. If you have worked with Oracle DB specifically (even in a college lab or personal project using the free Oracle Database XE), say so explicitly. The Oracle stack has its own syntax, tools, and paradigms. Familiarity with it is a visible differentiator.
Similarly, if you have used Oracle APEX (the low-code platform built on Oracle DB), mention it. Very few campus candidates have Oracle-specific tool experience, and it signals that you understand and are interested in what Oracle actually builds.
OCI is now a strategic priority (and candidates can demonstrate it)
Oracle has been aggressively investing in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) as a competitor to AWS and Azure. Internally, this is a major focus area. Candidates who demonstrate OCI familiarity are noticed, especially for Cloud Infrastructure Engineer roles.
OCI has a free tier. If you have spun up a compute instance, configured networking, or deployed a service on OCI, that experience belongs on your resume with a specific bullet. Do not just list "cloud" or "OCI" in your skills section. Write a bullet that shows you used it and what you did.
For candidates without Oracle-specific cloud experience, AWS or Azure fundamentals are still relevant for cloud roles. But OCI knowledge is a differentiator that most competing candidates do not have.

How to write bullets that signal enterprise credibility
Oracle hiring emphasises correctness, reliability, and depth over surface-level breadth. Bullets that show you thought carefully about what could go wrong and built for it read well here.
Weak: "Worked on databases."
Strong: "Designed a relational schema for an inventory management system; wrote PL-SQL procedures for batch updates and added constraints to enforce referential integrity; validated query performance with EXPLAIN plans before and after adding indexes."
Weak: "Built REST APIs."
Strong: "Built REST APIs in Java for an order processing workflow; added input validation, exception handling, and integration tests that caught three edge cases before staging deployment."
Notice the second version in each pair shows not just what was built but how carefully it was built. That engineering rigour signal is what Oracle looks for.
What gets Oracle resumes rejected
Weak SQL knowledge is the most common failure for developer roles. If a candidate lists SQL as a skill but cannot discuss schema design, indexing, or query optimization in an interview, that gap is exposed quickly.
Generic cloud experience with no Oracle stack exposure does not differentiate. "Experience with cloud platforms" without specifics tells an Oracle recruiter nothing.
Long paragraph descriptions instead of scannable bullets are also a problem with Taleo specifically. The system scans for keywords and hiring managers scan for proof. Neither benefits from prose.
